Rising American-Indian Tennis Star Nishesh Basavareddy: US Open Match, Career & Parents
Nishesh Basavareddy is an American tennis player who plays at a professional level. He has achieved a career-high ATP ranking of World Number 107. Nishesh has an Indian descent but was born and raised in California.
Career Highest Ranking
Recently, the American tennis player has achieved his best trademark in his sports. He was ranked World No. 107 on 13 January 2025 which is the best-ever ranking he has achieved in singles ATP ranking. Simultaneously, he also achieved the best ATP ranking for doubles of No. 676 on 25 November 2024.
The Indian-descent tennis star is becoming a popular figure in the sports industry. In the debut match, although he was defeated by Novak Djokovic, his performance was excellent. The 19-year-old has impressed Djokovic with his skills. Many of his fans believe that much more is yet to come from this impressive youngster. Novak said some words of appreciation:
I was very impressed by him. I think the whole stadium was that’s why he got a great round of applause and appreciation from the crowd. They saw what he did on the court, the quality of tennis he put in, the fighting spirit. Huge credit to him for stepping out on his debut in a Grand Slam, the first time on a big court, playing the way, he did.
Although Nishesh played well, many believe that the kid will become better in the coming years. Nishesh started the game strong but just couldn’t beat the four times winner of the US Open tennis tournament.
Nishesh Basavareddy Parents
The American tennis celebrity was born in Newport Beach, California on 2 May 2005. His mother is Sai Prasanna, and his father is Muralikrishna Basavereddy. Both of them also have roots in India. He has one elder brother, Nishanth Basavareddy, who also plays tennis. His brother played for his college’s tennis team at the University of Indiana. During Nishanth’s sophomore year, he won 5 singles, and two doubles matches.
Parents of Nishesh originally belonged to Nellore, which is a city in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. His parents were born and raised in India. However, to pursue a better life, they moved to the United States and managed to settle down in San Francisco in 1999. After some time, they moved to Carmel, Indiana. Nishesh was 8 years old at that time. The reason for moving to Indiana was because of his father’s job as he started to work in Toyota. Nishesh has stated:
I started playing some local tournaments in the last year and a half that was there. 10 and under. We also played soccer and some other sports. Once we moved to Indiana, we’ve been playing only tennis.
Although the tennis star has moved to the United States, his grandparents still live in India. He also stated that when he was younger, he would go visit India more often with his parents. He said:
When I was younger, we used to go every year. We tend to go once every 3 years maybe to visit my grandparents and other family members. We normally visit Hyderabad, Nellore and Puttaparthi regions when I am there.
Tennis Since Childhood
Nishesh showed his interest in tennis since he was little. He used to play sports as a fun activity with his father. Later, it was revealed that he had developed tennis as his professional career. He remembers playing with his father as he said:
My dad used to play for fun in Irvine and my brother started playing a little bit then. I started playing at the local club.
The Indian ascent star trained under coach Bryan Smith. He received some help from fellow Indian, former doubles World No.1 Rajeev Ram. Rajeev is also a native of Indiana and he has taught many advanced skills to Nishesh. As they both have Indian ascent, they bond well with each other. Nishesh still continues to believe Rajeev is his mentor in tennis.
Basavareddy has played some events even at a very young age. He won the Boys Double title at US Open 2022 when he was just 17 years old. The American boy quickly rose to top 200 as he gained his No. 199 spot on 30 September 2024 by making his way through many players. The American tennis star has many more years of glory to come, and he promises to show very good skills in the world of tennis.
