Eric Knowles Illness
The famous Britisher was born in Nelson, United Kingdom. The main interest of Eric lies in glass and ceramics. He rose to fame due to his involvement with the BBC Television program, Bargain Hunt. However, a recent heart-to-heart conversation with Knowles has been revealed. This conversation also includes his near-death experience when he was 9 years old.
New revelations were made by Eric in the BBC program ‘Matron, Medicine and Me’. This program covers the history of the National Health Service (NHS) and Knowles wanted to share his own personal experience.
It came as a shock when Eric Knowles was told that he had cancer. He was only 9 years old at the time. Just imagine how a boy would feel about having cancer when he has his whole life in front of him. The symptoms of Eric led to leukemia, which is one of the deadliest forms of cancer. This is a blood cancer that starts from the bone marrow.
However, after detailed analysis, it was revealed that Knowles was only suffering from glandular fever. This fever caused Eric’s parents to admit him to a hospital for 6 weeks. Doctors performed weeks of testing which proved that it was just a fever, not cancer. This was a sigh of relief for himself and his parents as ‘leukemia’ is considered the death sentence.

BBC Show
Knowles revealed all this information about his journey through life. He got featured on the show ‘Maron, Medicine and Me’ where he felt the need to share his thoughts so others could benefit from it. Right now, the show is no longer available on iPlayer. The fans of Eric can see some glimpses of the interview that he gave at the show.
During this show, he also consulted with Dr Margaret Rokicka, who gave an insight into the whole experience that he experienced at such a young age.
NHS Technology
The National Health Service (NHS) has more advanced technology now compared to previous decades. This is why they can identify most kids with leukemia and treat them effectively. All the efforts go towards the NHS and their success towards achieving this milestone.
Eric also met a young cancer patient who reminded him about his early childhood scare. This made Knowles a bit emotional as he imagined the tough journey that the boy has ahead of him. Being a porter at Bonham’s auction house, the British TV personality also gave some of his time to hospital porters Andy McHale and Steven Shaw.
Knowles also paid a visit to a hospital in Manchester where the NHS was first inaugurated back in the year 1948. His journey was full of support, his visits to the hospitals gave some hope to the patients dealing with cancer.
He also went to visit the daughter of a pediatrician in Burnley who had previously treated him during his childhood. Although he is 71 years old now, his health seems to be much better than most people his age. This is an even greater reflection on how NHS has further improved the health system in the United Kingdom.

Eric is known to be a support for health charity organizations which include ‘Headway’, and ‘For a Better Life with Epilepsy (FABLE)’. Apart from this, his talents in glass and ceramics have made him an executive director at Scottishantiques.com.
