Angel’s talent is inherited from her parents, both of whom had successful basketball careers. Angel’s mom was the driving force behind her decision to start playing basketball after watching her mother play when she was young.

She used to play in a little league, and I used to always go watch her games on Sundays. That was something that was always inspiring to me.

Webb Reese raised both her children as a single mother, and Angel credits her for much of her upbringing. Despite receiving multiple Division I offers, Angel chose to attend the University of Maryland, making it easier for her family to attend her games while also securing a full scholarship.

Webb Reese passed on both her name and athletic talent to Angel, which has occasionally led to confusion among the young athlete’s fans. She revealed that:

“I am getting some crazy dating requests from men my kid’s age who clearly by the content of msg think they’re sending it to lil A.”

In an interview with ESPN, Angel praised her mom for teaching her confidence from a young age, particularly by demonstrating how independent a woman could be while raising two kids on her own.

She said:

“Looking at her and seeing how she never backed down to anything. She always stood her ground for everything, she worked super hard for me and my brother to get in this position, being able to just look at her and say ‘Mom, you showed me. You paved the way for me.”
