Tyrese Gibson recently revealed the reason for his breakup with girlfriend Zeli Timothy. According to the actor and singer, their split was due to the content of his upcoming album, Beautiful Pain.
Tyrese Speaks Out on the Breakup
On Sunday, February 11th, 2024 Tyrese took to Instagram to share a trailer for the album and discuss the breakup. He said:
“Me and Zeli just broke up over some dumb sht. She demanded that I cancel my album because there are too many songs about my ex on there. F*ck does that even mean?”
The ex in question is Samantha Lee, with whom Tyrese recently went through a messy, ugly, and long divorce. Tyrese began his video by apologizing to Cat Williams, 50 Cent, and Kanye West— all of whom he’s had high-profile exchanges with in recent years.
Beautiful Pain And Its Emotional Backstory
Tyrese further said that:
“All right, we got that out of the way. My lawyers, my managers, everybody’s pissed. I just released my double album today, but it’s only available for 10 hours. 50 Cent, Cat Williams, Kanye, forgive me. I used you for clickbait.”
The trailer shows footage of a number of stars who it’s implied appeared on Beautiful Pain. These include Lenny Kravitz, Will Smith, Snoop Dogg, and El DeBarge. It also contains news coverage of the singer’s split with Lee and his mother’s death in February 2022.

Beautiful Pain was released in May last year and was avaialbe for pre orders for a limited time at Tyrese’s website. Gibson told Kenny Burns about the album, saying that it was inspired by his troubles with Lee.
Tyrese Stands By His Truth and Addresses Critics
Tyrese reevaled that he wants to address those who are overly sensitive, stating that no one, regardless of their gender or background, will stop him from speaking his truth.
He emphasized that if people are triggered by him sharing his thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and see it as bashing or targeting a woman, then their perspective is flawed. Quote an quote he said:
One thing y’all are not going to do, whether I’m a man, a woman, whether I’m Black—whatever—you’re not going to ever be able to stop me from speaking, walking, and living my truth. And if your brain is triggered by a man having real conversations about his thoughts and his feelings and what he experienced, and you look at that as bashing or tearing down someone because they happen to be a woman, then your whole process is wrong.
Furthermore, Tyrese pointed out that his ex has been posting ‘Miracle Mondays’ on Instagram, making daily jabs at him and even calling his current girlfriend a Jezebel. He stressed that the same energy should be kept when it comes to allowing people to express themselves.
He added:
“She’s allowed to feel whatever she wants to feel. She can use whatever platform she wants. She can write a book, do a podcast. I wish her well. But your thoughts and feelings and playing the victim? Then I can express my thoughts and my feelings through my music, through me writing books, me doing interviews, and you’ve got to hold that the way I’ve got to hold that. Because I’m me. I’m this work.”
